Writing Your Vision

I was going through some old journals the other day and I came across a personal vision Rob and I had written down together years ago. This is something we’ve been doing since we first got married. As I looked at the vision, I was in awe as I realized every last thing we wrote down had come to pass. Sitting there, the Holy Spirit began to remind me of all the wonderful things that have happened in our lives, and each and every single one was written down in our personal visions through the years. We’ve always written our personal vision because we believe in it, but WOW, was I floored as the Holy Spirit highlighted all these wonderful things that came to pass through our 18 years of marriage because of it! EVERYthing Rob and I have ever received, accomplished, believed for, prayed for, and worked for in life have come to pass as a result of writing our vision and partnering with God. It was not just coincidence or accidental, but by God’s Divine will. Everything from our children, to the home we own, to the places we’ve gone, to major life decisions, to our spiritual growth, our personal growth, our relationships, our ministry goals, and so on, have all come to pass as we’ve written it down and partnered with God.

Writing your vision is not just some wish list or a nice thing to do. It’s Biblical, it’s powerful and it’s something that will impact your life dramatically. Habakkuk 2:2-3 says;

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

The verses above clearly tell us to write our vision down so that we can read it and run with it. In order to read something, that means we have to keep it before us. Don’t just write your vision down and throw it in a drawer somewhere. Read it often; pray over it, make declarations over your life based on it, call it forth in faith and believe for it. Then, begin to run with it! When we have a vision for our lives, we’ll know the direction to go. It will help us to live life on purpose and with purpose. We’ll use our time wisely and make decisions to work towards it. We’ll also be able to avoid the detours in life that threaten to take us off course because we know what our vision is. This is partnering with God.

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it!

Psalm 37:5

Since we have been married, Rob and I write a 1, 3, and 5-year vision. We write a new one-year vision every year and update our 3 and 5-year vision as needed. More often than not, many of the things we’ve put on our 3 to 5-year vision come to pass sooner. This is also Biblical because God promises that when we have expectation (hope, faith, belief) in Him, He’ll always exceed our expectations!

“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”

Ephesians 3:20

As you write your vision down, read it and then begin to run with it, you’ll be amazed at how God moves in your life. Keep believing and watching for God to do it. The verses in Habakkuk promise as we do, it will come to pass. It’s amazing to see God move in our lives like this. It’s such a faith booster! And I believe that faith is the key to unlocking God’s will for our lives. When we have faith for God to move in our lives, we won’t settle for less than God’s best and we’ll go after great things, because we know our God is able! Faith is a powerful force that will bring the supernatural promises and provision of God to us. I want to encourage you to write your vision down and partner with God to see great things happen in your life!

STEPS TO WRITING YOUR VISION:

  1. Pray: Ask the Lord what His will is for your life and to guide you as you write. Close your eyes and listen before you write.
  • Write: Just begin to jot down whatever comes to mind; your dreams, desires, wants, hope for your future, anything important to you. This is just a brainstorming time as you are thinking of your vision. Things to consider:
    • Relationships
    • Personal Goals
    • Career
    • Spiritual Goals
  • Write your vision –either in a notebook or create a vision board.
  • Keep it Before you – Continuing to add to it as time goes by– pictures, scripture, encouraging quotes, etc…
  • Pray over your vision weekly if not daily. Ask God to continue to speak to you and lead you in the vision He has for your life.
  • Be Faithful today! As we’re faithful today, God can trust us with more!

Here are some fun resources I found searching the web. Each of these sites has some fun and FREE printables, to inspire you in writing your vision or creating a vision board. PRINTABLE, PRINTABLE, PRINTABLE

Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

  1. God told me in a beautiful dream about 2 years ago that I would be set free from a bad situation. It came to pass this past December when I was in the shower and a familiar still small voice said ” get out of the shower pack your bags and leave today”. I was obedient and returned to Florida where my faith had been reinforced at the Dream Center 9 years ago. My journey here was miraculous in many ways. I am so excited to see and experience God’s plan for my life. p

    1. Amen! God is so good!! We’re so glad you’re here Diane and for all the good things God is doing in your life.
