I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” – Deuteronomy 30:19
Every day we have a choice? Will we live for God or for ourselves? It’s actually a moment-by-moment choice. A choice that’s reflected in the way we speak, walk and even think. Thankfully we have a guidebook for righteous living. God, through His Word, teaches us how to make good choices that will reap good results in our lives. Psalm 12:28 says,
There is life in the path of righteousness, but another path leads to death (HCSB).
Very simply…righteous living reaps right results. We all want our lives to be blessed…to be filled with good things. While life always has its challenges, the Bible is clear that our choice to walk with Him leads to life and blessing.
On the other hand, our bad choices lead to death. Even now we may be living with the negative consequences of some bad choices we’ve made. The good news is, today is a new day filled with fresh mercy from above. We don’t have to allow yesterday’s bad choices to keep us bound in a cycle of defeat. Today, right now, we have the opportunity to make good choices that will lead to life and blessing.
Today…
Will we choose to give in to gossip and tear our brother or sister down, or will we choose only to edify others with our lips?
Will we choose to lie and cover to protect ourselves or will we speak the truth knowing it’s the truth that sets us free?
Will we choose to feast on the things of this world that bring death or will we choose to fill ourselves with life-giving things that please God?
Will we choose to worship the things of this world – the praise of man and our own selfish ambitions or will we choose to worship the only ONE worthy of our worship – giving our very lives as a living sacrifice to Him?
Ultimately, will we choose HIM above all else?
This is the choice that will lead to life and blessing and will impact not only our own lives but the lives of those for generations to come. And just a reminder; living for God is not about being perfect. There is only ONE perfect One and thankfully He loves us in spite of all our imperfections. He doesn’t leave us to flounder in them though. He extends His hand of grace to us so that we can take hold of it and walk higher with Him than we ever could on our own. It’s our choice.
So today what will you choose? As you go about your day, I pray that the apostle Paul’s words encourage you as they do me:
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me (HCSB). – 2 Corinthians 12:9
AMEN!!!!
