Problems… The Potential for Promotion – Guest Post by Rob Sparrow

In times of adversity, we don’t have problems, we have the potential for promotion. A problem or obstacle will introduce us to ourselves and announce to the world who we really are. Problems provide the potential to get bitter or better. I choose better. What about you? It helps me to remember that all problems have a life span, and they will end. As the old saying goes…”This too shall pass.” It’s just a matter of time until good gives way to better and then His best for our lives.

A great example of this is the Bible retelling about David and Goliath. David’s brothers thought the problem was too big to handle. David thought Goliath was too big to miss. A relationship may end but that may be God making room for people who honor and love you the way you deserve. You may have to move but that could be the beginning of something better. Your time on a job may end but that may be God calling you to start a business and become an entrepreneur. Not everything that looks bad is bad. Alexander Fleming left his workplace a mess and came back to fungus in his office, which led to a major medical discovery. Penicillin is still one of our most widely used antibiotics.

I hear the saying, “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.” Sometimes that might be true, but it can also be someone holding onto something God is trying to remove to make room for more joy, more peace, more love, and more of His blessing in your life. What I’m saying is to look for the potential. Not everything bad is bad. It might be an opportunity to move onto something better.

In times of adversity, keep your eyes on the promise and the problems will pass. All problems have a life span. In the meantime, let your problem work for you, announce who you are in Christ, and bring you into His potential for your life. Choose to get better, not bitter. Keep your eyes on what you’re going to, not going through. He’s making you not breaking you. And remember, the very problem you are facing may be releasing hidden potential within you.
