Have you ever woken up dreading the start to a new day? Or had days where something didn’t go as planned, and it seemed like the whole day was ruined? I think we could all relate! These 5 things below, are things I’ve learned to apply every single day, so that no matter what’s going on, I can truly have a good day! Is this really possible? Yes, it is! Next week, I’ll be sharing “A Day in My Life” and how I practically apply these 5 principles throughout my day. But for now, I pray these 5 things bless your day as they do mine!
GRATITUDE
“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”Ps. 9:1
I could share many verses on gratitude because the Bible is filled with them, but I chose this one because an “action” is involved. The Psalmist talks about “telling” all the wonderful deeds God has done in his life. There’s something powerful in “speaking out” the goodness of God in our lives. I start each day thanking God for the good things in my life. Sure, there are some negative things, and things I have to deal with, but instead of focusing on those, I start thanking and praising God for the good things in my life. This is a powerful way to start each day, because it changes our whole attitude and outlook on life.
I also believe that gratitude is a way to help us walk in contentment. Discontentment will make it nearly impossible to have a good day, because we’re so focused on what we don’t have or where we’re are at in life that we can’t enjoy life. Too many people are missing out on the good days God wants them to have right now. God wants us to enjoy the journey. An attitude of gratitude will help us to do this. As you choose to practice thanking God daily for the good things in your life, it will become a habit and you’re whole attitude becomes one of greater gratitude.
PRAYER
Prayer is the easiest and most powerful thing we can do, and yet for many, the most neglected area of their lives. When I discovered the power of prayer, my life changed for the better. Prayer connects us to our Heavenly Father in a special way. We can share our hearts with Him, and He in turn, reveals His heart to us. Being connected to God throughout the day gives us a confidence and strength like nothing welse can. Prayer also helps us keep worry at bay. The Bible says in Philippians 4:6-7,
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
In this verse, we see how both gratitude and prayer will give us the peace we need for each day. Jesus role modeled a strong prayer life as we can see in the Word how often He took time to pray. His prayer life was one of continual communication between Him and His Father and His life reflected that powerfully.
Below are just a few of the benefits of prayer:
I encourage you not to just start your day with prayer but to stay connected with God all throughout your day. After all, the Bibles says it’s possible to “pray without ceasing.”
BEING OTHERLY
I believe the unhappiest people are those who live for themselves. God didn’t create us to be self-centered, but to be God-centered. A God-centered person looks around them and finds a way to be a blessing to someone in need. I’ve found that even when I’m struggling, if I take my focus off my own problems and look for a way to help someone else, my whole attitude changes. I also believe in law of of sowing and reaping; and what we do for others, God will do for us. The very solution to our problem may come through helping someone else. So, in your prayer time, ask the Lord, “Who can I be a blessing to someone today?” It can be as simple as showing kindness, encouraging someone or blessing them in a way that may seem small to you, but make a great impact in their life. This is a prayer God will surely answer!
SELF-CARE
I’ve written about this so often that I won’t go into it too much, but it’s a big part of my physical, spiritual and emotional health. If I run myself ragged or neglect caring for myself physically, spiritually or emotionally, it’s going to catch up with me. It’s impossible to live a vibrant life when you don’t care for yourself. Take inventory of your life and see what things you may need to change or add to take better care of yourself. For me, I need to DAILY make sure I get adequate sleep, get some form of exercise, drink LOTS of water, and plan and eat healthy meals. I also need to make sure I get my quiet time with the Lord every day and stick to a schedule so I don’t get overwhelmed by the hundreds of other things screaming for my attention. When I’m diligent in caring for myself, I not only feel better but have more to impart to those God calls me to. And so will you. So remember, self care is not selfish, it’s a necessity! GETTING ORGANIZED
I’m not a naturally organized person, but I’ve learned to be. Being organized helps me to have a good, peaceful, and productive day! When my home, car and work place are neat and organized, it’s easier to function and get work done. They say clutter outside is a reflection of clutter inside. I’m not sure if this is true, but when there’s clutter outside, I certainly feel cluttered on the inside and have a more difficult time being productive and at peace. Awhile back, I opened my pantry door and was met with chaos. I started to straighten it out and found I had bought doubles of many things because I didn’t realize I had it. There were also many expired things that got shoved to the back of the pantry unnoticed. I felt grieved by the waste and if I’m honest, a little overwhelmed, so I googled “pantry organization ideas” and soon found a plan that would work for us. Now, our pantry is organized, so when I open it, what I need is easily accessible and nothing is being wasted, including my time and sanity in searching for things!!! Being organized for me also involves having a schedule that I work from. It means planning ahead so that I can be prepared for things, be on time for appointments, and do whatever I need to do with excellence. Too many people are frazzled and frustrated because they’re whizzing through life without any kind of structure. Getting organized may seem like more work in the beginning, but it is so worth the effort. It will add peace and order to your every day life. If you’re like me and not “naturally” organized, Pinterest and Google have great articles and ideas that can help you and can actually be fun as you find creative ways to organize your life.

Really practical words of wisdom , thanks Jill
Thank you Diane! ❤
Thank You for such a practical reminder. During an internship program, my boss used to say ‘ a cluttered desk is a cluttered mind’ I’ve never forgotten that.
Reading this made me smile, keeping organized or getting organized reminds me that although we often are not in control of every circumstance in our lives, there are many things we can control, like our pantry, our dresser drawers…and we can gain control over our thoughts and bring them captive to the obedience of Christ!! . Thank you for sharing.
So true Gina! Amen!! Thanks for commenting! 🙂
